Salaries

AberSU Staff are paid against a Trustee agreed pay-scale that is available on the shared drive. Cost of living awards and any increments to be agreed in the annual budget and applied at start of each new financial year. This pay-scale is reviewed every 3 years. The Union sets salaries by benchmarking other appropriate roles and organisations. Students’ Union posts are also exempt to HERA.

Reward and Recognition

The Students’ Union is committed to recognising the work of its staff, volunteers and key contacts. We acknowledge the importance of doing so in order for us to continually improve the standard of services and opportunities available to our membership, staff and stakeholders.

It is the aim of the Union to reward good work, both paid and unpaid and we believe in the importance of saying 'thankyou'.

The Union has many stakeholders and relationships, and we understand the value of openly appreciating our people - our volunteers, staff, committees, clubs & societies and external contacts.

This could be for a number of reasons such as:

  • Motivation and satisfaction - We believe that by recognising the contribution that people make, those people will be motivated in their work and will continue to aspire to achieve. We understand the importance of and the need for employees and volunteers to feel satisfied in the work they are doing.
  • Celebration and Encouragement – The Union understands that an effective tool for encouraging all of our staff and volunteers is to celebrate and share their successes.
  • Peer Status and Example Setting - It is important for people to be recognised amongst their peers as being "achievers", both for their own motivation, and in order to set an example to which others can to aspire.
  • Promoting Involvement - we are a membership organisation and believe that by recognising the work that people do, we will promote involvement in all aspects of our student activities.
  • Personal Development - we are committed to the personal development of all of our key people and customers.
  • Communicating Values – the Union is guided by its values of being professional, student-centred, inspirational, positive, accountable and entertaining.  Recognising the achievements of our staff, volunteers and contacts is an essential tool in communicating these values across and outside of the organisation.
  • Continual Improvement – the Union is actively engaged in a systematic process of self-assessment, quality management and continual improvement. We appreciate that people are the most important ingredient in this process.
