Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is observed annually on November 20th to honor and remember transgender individuals who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender violence. The day serves as a memorial for those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and aims to raise awareness about the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by the transgender community. TDOR also seeks to highlight the need for action to protect transgender rights and promote safety and acceptance for all transgender people.
At Undeb Aberystwyth we condemn all acts of violence and hate crime. We acknowledge the inordinate impact on Trans lives. During this day we remember the lives of those we have lost and stand in solidarity with our Trans students.
Quote from your 2022-2023 Wellbeing Officer Cameron
It is becoming increasingly scary and tough to be transgender. Waiting lists are years long; private care costs hundreds, even thousands; governments and people on social media are deciding what we can and can’t do with our bodies, even debating our existence; and transphobic violence is high. Over the past year, 375 trans and gender diverse deaths have been reported globally and many more have gone unreported. Deliberate misgendering, and verbal and physical abuse impact trans people’s wellbeing and quality of life enormously. Transgender individuals just want to be happy and comfortable, like everybody else. To the trans students of Aberystwyth, I am proud of you and I see you.
Transgender Day of Visability
Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is an annual event celebrated on March 31st to honour and raise awareness about transgender people and their experiences. The day is dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of transgender and non-binary individuals, while also highlighting the discrimination and challenges they face. TDOV aims to promote acceptance, equality, and visibility for the transgender community, encouraging society to recognize and support transgender rights and inclusion.
