Summary

Union presidents should have reserved positions as delegates for UK wide and Wales conferences.

Details

NUS Conferences are the biggest conferences on the student calendar and its where SUs can promote themselves on a national level. Most student unions reserve a delegate position for the President as they are the “the public voice of the Students’ Union and students.” Currently we don’t have this policy at Undeb Aberystwyth and I think if that is how the union see’s their President they should be guaranteed positions at National and Wales NUS Conferences.

The union has now designated a space for the President to go to NUS Wales and National Conference. The President will have the choice whether they attend or not. The other positions will be advertised and elected the same as before during the Autumn elections. NUS have a rule were 50% of delegates who attend the conference need to identify as a woman. This will be taken into consideration when nominations open. Campaigns and Democracy Coordinator June 2024
The NUS delegation structure has changed, and this policy will be updated to align with the new NUS regulations. We will update this page as soon as the details are confirmed Campaigns and Democracy Coordinator November 2024
