Her role focuses on giving Aber students the best student journey possible and giving them more than just a degree.

About the Role:

 

The Student Opportunities Officer is responsible for:

  • Representing the student body on matters relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Co-ordinating activity and campaigns relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Informing policy within the University and Students’ Union on matters relating to sports, societies, volunteering and employability.
  • Supporting and developing a network of clubs and societies by chairing the Sports and Societies Zones.
  • Working with the Chief Executive Officer and Undeb Aberystwyth’s senior management team to achieve and shape strategic aims and outcomes.
  • Attending appropriate University Committees.
  • Attending regular meetings with relevant University departments to further the development of clubs, societies, volunteering and employability.

Current Priorities:

Below you can find a list of priorities Tiff is working on this year as well as her current progress on them.

Work towards the policy goals set by students.

Improve communication between the University, the Student’s Union, and the Students

  • Set up Officer Instagram to provide another method of accountability for officers
  • Create monthly check-up forms for student groups to pick up on problems quickly, and better advertise achievements
  • Advertise monthly forums’, encouraging groups to attend and to provide feedback in person
  • Launch ‘Tiff Tries’ to better advertise student groups

Ensure facilities used for activities are appropriate for use

  • Work with students and university staff to create a development plan for sports centre facilities
  • Develop a long-term sports strategy with the university
  • Reappropriate the Faith Space as a bookable venue for students
  • Evaluate current spaces for booking and if they are appropriate for their uses
  • Ensure that student groups have access to the proper sports facilities they need to compete effectively.
