This role has been Co-opted meaning they do not have a vote in the Senedd but fulfill all other responsiabilities of the role.

Responsibilities of all Volunteer Officers
- To attend all appropriate Undeb Aberystwyth and University meetings including Senedd Meetings and Forums.
- To act in a professional and appropriate manner always.
- To ensure that all decisions and actions are taken in line with the Undeb Aberystwyth constitution and current Undeb Aberystwyth policy.
- To be prepared to report on the progress of the work under their remit.
- To regularly meet and liaise with relevant Officer Trustees and staff members.
- To attend relevant meet and greets throughout the year.
- To attend all training relevant to their role.
Responsibilities of Independent Students’ Officer
• Representing students who identify as independent (which include care-leavers, Estranged students, refugees, young carers, and parents in education) on matters relevant to them.
• Co-ordinating and leading campaigns on matters relating to the needs of independent students.
• Acting as a source of information and point of contact for independent students.
• Advising Undeb Aber on ways it can improve its work in line with the needs of independent students.
• Working with students, full-time officer and officers across Wales and the UK to ensure the needs of independent students are represented.

Create informational leaflets for student halls highlighting essential items students may need, with an option to include this content on the website. |

Collaborate with the International Officer to support students staying on campus during the holidays. |

Provide clear and accessible education about the role and responsibilities of the Independent Officer. |

Resources for independent students:
NNECL (National Network for the Education of Care Leavers) – This is an organisation which supports young people who have had experienced within care. Their main objective is to give opportunities to care leavers for them to have the best chances for adult life. NNECL offers free memberships to University Students which gives them free access to the NNECL webinar programme, monthly new letters, and other NNCEL events. Webpage
Gingerbread – Gingerbread is an organisation which supports single parents and offers advice and information for them. They also provide a support network for single parents, so they do not have to go through hardship alone. Importantly, Gingerbread gives advice for a wide array of difficulties faced by single parents such as housing, disability, LGBTQA+, studying etc… This website is completely free and parents do not have to be students to access information. Student Action for Refugees – This website is a vast collection of available information and advice for refugee and asylum seeking students. Student Action for Refugees has information on help with your University application, legal advice, employment opportunities, support for LGBTQA+ community. This website also has a mailing list to stay up to date about scholarship deadlines and other opportunity deadlines. Webpage
Children’s Commissioner – Children’s commissioner offers a lot of advice and knowledge for young carers on a wide range of issues that they may face. This webpage also links to other organisation which support young carers such as Carers trust, Young Carers Alliance, Caring together. All of Children’s Commissioner is completely free an accessible to students and non-students. Specifically for University Student’s this webpage has information for bursaries and other financial aid that universities can provide. Webpage
