Celebrating the successes and achievements of our students and societies here at Aberystwyth University
Society of the Year is the most coveted and sought-after award within Team Aber. This is awarded to the most successful, committed, and active society of the academic year. This award received many nominations and was as highly contested as ever!
This year the winners have had the biggest membership numbers we have seen for as long as we can remember. They are pro-active in ensuring that members enjoy themselves and also getting stuck in with SU campaigns, particularly surrounding anti-spiking, and alcohol safety. The winner of Society of The Year is Cocktail Society!
Cocktail Society has been extremely active this year and has become well-known throughout the student population in Aber. Following restrictions last year, the society have bounced back better than ever. Their weekly socials are increasingly popular, and the weekly themes ensures that engagement remain high. Despite stereotypically being a drinking-based society, the committee have expanded this premise this year and have run many ‘sober-socials’ to ensure that everyone is welcome at their events.
Their committee have gone above and beyond this year, they have been extremely welcoming to all members and have prioritised the well-being of the group throughout the year. They have worked closely with other societies, such as BeerPong, organising joint socials that are inclusive to members from both societies.
They have been involved in a multitude of SU events, from AberChallenge to Superteams and are never afraid to get stuck in. Outside of socials their committee has run a very successful RAG week (allowing them to also win the RAG contribution award this year) which included events such as a bake sale, a pizza night, and a takeover at Harleys in town. During this week they raised over £1000 for RNLI and New Pathways.

“Cocktail Society have been incredible this year in every sense of the word. They have had active participation in most, if not all, of the SU run events from Aber Challenge and Superteams to Socs Fest and This Girl Can. Most recently, they conducted their RAG week with events from a Quiz night, a raffle, and a bake sale. They raised a whopping £1040 for the RNLI and New Pathways. They are also extremely active of social media, promoting information on stress awareness around exam times to raising awareness for the Crisis in Ukraine. Cocktail Society are a very approachable and active society that deserves to win this award for all their efforts this year to go above and beyond just being a social "cocktail drinking only" society.” [Anonymous Nominator].
