Black Lives Matter is a global activist movement campaigning against racism, discrimination and violence towards black people.

This movement originally began in 2013, when the killing of innocent Trayvon Martin came to light. Following this tragedy, outrage spread through the Black community and soon all around the world people began to hashtag #BlackLivesMatter in protest. Fundamentally, making headline news all around the world. These three words are a cry to dismantle white supremacy, end racially targeted violence and fix the broken system in which Black people struggle, simply because of the colour of their skin. This push to fix an outdated and racially targeted system filters into many different sectors such as job opportunities, healthcare, schooling systems, housing and of course the most talked about area – policing and incarceration.

This month is Black History Month and given the recent events regarding murders of innocent George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, it is now more important than ever to shed light on the racism we see all around us. Whether it’s by donation, attending protests, educating yourself or amplifying black voices, there are many ways to support the global struggle against racism – no matter where you are in the world! Below are a few resources from our Read, Watch, Listen list which we believe will be beneficial to educating yourself.
