Nominations for our next set of NUS UK and NUS Wales Conference Delegates are currently open! Being a delegate is a really exciting opportunity to represent what student life is like in Aberystwyth on a national scale, network with student leaders, gain confidence, and develop CV boosting skills.
What is the NUS?
The NUS UK is the National Union of Students, a group of around 600 students’ unions around the UK that leads the charge in representing students’ interests. From fees to housing, they use campaigning and research, targeted action, and Government lobbying to influence policy on a national scale. Promoting and defending the rights of all university students in the United Kingdom.
NUS Wales is the Welsh section of the NUS, and represents the interests of more than 250,000 Students in Further and Higher Education in Wales.
What does it mean to be an NUS delegate?
Delegates are students elected by their peers to represent their union an NUS Conference. In short, that means they get to debate, vote, and decide on the policies and priorities of the NUS – ultimately meaning they can influence national Government policy that impacts students.
It’s AberSU’s job to elect 2 Delegates for the NUS UK Conference and 4 delegates for the NUS Wales Conference. For both of these, at least half of the delegates elected must identify as female.

What sort of commitment does it involve?
The time commitment required is the duration of the conference (including time required to travel to and from the location if required) as well as a briefing before and debriefing after the conference. The Students’ Union covers conference registration fees, accommodation and travel for all delegates.

NUS Wales Conference 2023: Week commencing 20th March 2023
