Term 2 Event Round Up

This term has seen our annual events Superteams and Varsity take place. Let's take a look at how they went -

Superteams

After two weekends of intense competition this February, 56 different teams battled it out over 22 events ranging from bouncy castle races to the tug of war with only one winner making it out on top.

Women were the first to compete, with some very strong performances setting the tone of the competition. Teams were forced to make important decisions that could make or break their place on the scoreboard, choosing to drop one event and doubling up (jokered) their points on another.

And what a difference these decisions made with DAFUQQQ jumping from 8th to 3rd over Friday to Saturday, following their jokered dodgeball performance, while Farmer Charmers dropped from 13th to 22nd after a poor performance on their chosen joker tug of war.

The men’s competition was equally as fierce. Following the Saturday competition only 10 points were sitting behind first place, We Don’t like Him Either, and their challenger, Meatballs’s Minions. It was all still to play for as Sunday games began, with 5 of the teams having the mystery event jokered, meaning last minute scoreboard changes were certain. These changes were scoreboard breaking; Badminton backshots rose from 25th to a prideful 18th, Rim Dingers rose from 21st to 15th, and less fortunately Ambulance Riders dropped from 17th to 23rd.

And as tradition, after a weekend that finished in questionable liquids and brutal athleticism, both on the first and second Sunday, champions were crowned. Only 12 points sat between the top 2 women’s teams, making predictions for the champion near impossible. But someone had to win.

Final scores were:

Varsity

Varsity saw students represent Aberystwyth via high calibre athleticism and competition.

46 different sports were played out over the competition ranging from jiu jitsu, to surfing, to table tennis, all with close scores. Aberystwyth did succeed in many of these, winning American Football 47-28, Pool 30-22 and Womens Football 1-0.

However, Bangor also succeeded, demonstrating the ferocity of the competition and the intensity which was displayed.

A congratulations is in order for all students who participated on both the main varsity day and the sporadic days beforehand. Let’s keep up this sportsmanship and go back for another round next year!
