It’s important to remember that university is now your home from home so it’s important to make it feel that way. Making the place your own with soft furnishings and familiar smells can help you settle a lot faster too so it’s worth spending the extra time to get yourself settled.

Here are some ideas to keep in mind when moving into your new temporary home:

  • Battery powered fairy lights
  • soft cushions and blankets
  • Use wallpaper over pin boards to make them look more interesting
  • Use any vines/ garlands to hide any pipes
  • things to do with your hobby
  • post cards or birthday cards
  • a rug to hide unaesthetically pleasing flooring
  • small string to hang pictures from
  • small little trinkets to dot around your desk
  • flowers/ greenery to brighten up the room
  • print out pictures from free prints from your Pinterest board to make a collage on the wall
  • a reed diffuser to make it smell like home (don’t forget plug in fragrances and naked flames aren’t allowed in Uni halls)
  • Don’t forget that you should leave your room as you found it to make sure you get your deposit back. So avoid using materials that will mark or damage the walls.
